What does it mean to be the church?

The Bible uses the word “church” to describe a group of people. While we have a building and gatherings, the “church” is not defined by a building we go to or an event we attend. We, the people, are the church, and we don’t stop being the church when we walk out of the building on Sunday. Scripture teaches us that the Church is the people of God saved by the power of God for the purpose of God in all of life.

God has rescued His people - the church - through the sacrifice of Jesus, and he calls the church to be His family (1 Timothy 3:15) living on His mission together. Throughout the New Testament, the church is instructed in how to live together. In all, there are 59 “one another” commands in the New Testament exhorting us to do something for someone else (i.e. bear one another’s burdens, love one another, encourage one another). Joyfully living out these commands in light of the gospel is what we mean by being the church together.

What is a Life Group?

A life group is a spiritual family living out the mission Jesus gave us to make disciples in all the world by helping one another grow in our love for God and our love for people. Our relationship with God that leads us to become who He created us to be is a community project. We cannot sustain our belief in who God is, who we are in Christ, live the life He has called us to do apart from one another. Life Groups are the primary place where, in response to the grace and love God has shown us in the gospel, we can seek to grow as disciples in living life together. As we grow as disciples of Jesus, our love for one another will grow and deepen, and our desire to love and serve those outside the church will grow. A Life Group is a family of Jesus followers on God's mission.

Who is a Life Group for?

Life Groups are for everyone. They are a safe place to ask hard questions and wrestle with doubts. Life is messy and we are all in need of help, and ultimately a savior.

How should I decide which Life Group to attend?

We believe that the best way to determine which Life Group to attend is to find the one that is geographically closest to you. This way you will have much more opportunity to engage with the other members of your group in the everyday motions of life. However, there may be things that inhibit you from participating in the group closest to you - please do not let this stop you from getting involved in another group.

What should I expect when I show up to a Life Group?

Groups seek to provide a friendly environment, with honest and real people (no one is perfect). They are comprised by a mixed demographic of individuals that typically meet in a home. They often share meals and have discussion about God's word and how it is impacting their lives. They pray with and for each other. Groups are much, much more than a weekly meeting.

What if I have kids?

All of our groups manage childcare differently, but all of our groups have childcare. Check with the leader before you attend on how they take care of the kids.

How can I get connected?

We have groups of people that meet in homes during the week from South Austin to Kyle. If you are interested in joining up with one of these groups, take a minute to fill out the form below and someone will get in contact with you. If this seems a little daunting, our host team or pastoral staff can help you meet specific group leaders on a Sunday morning.
